Hi all, my name is Teresa and I feel so lucky to be selected to run the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon for the Peregrine Fund team. For a long time, one of my life’s bucket list goals was to run a marathon in every city that I have lived in; and so it seems I have saved the best for last and running NYC will be my victory lap in this chronicle.

Growing up in California, I was taught from a very young age that conservation was simply a part of everyday life, that it was necessary to ensure that there was enough to provide for everyone and that it was essential for long-term sustenance. Living with constant droughts and wildfires puts into perspective just how precious our natural resources are, and how dangerous it can be to take them for granted. As a result, I’ve always held a strong reverence for wildlife and believe that natural habitats, ecosystems, and the species that depend on them deserve protection.

Furthermore, I have always been deeply curious about the natural world and remain in constant awe of the interconnectedness amongst all living things and the beauty that surrounds us. The more time I spend in nature, the deeper my appreciation and gratitude for all that I have in life grows.

That is why I truly feel honored to run this year’s TCS NYC Marathon as an advocate for The Peregrine Fund, in the name of conservation and birds of prey. I feel a personal and spiritual connection not only to the larger goal of conservation, but to the magic and power of birds of prey. As I set forth on this journey, I am really hoping to not only make a positive impact on vulnerable habitats and species, but I also hope that I can inspire others to take notice and appreciate the natural world as much as I do. Thank you for any love and support along the way. See you at the finish line!
