World Center for Birds of Prey offers fun, education at Family Field Trip Saturday, February 19. It’s free!

BOISE, Idaho – Is winter giving your family a case of cabin fever? Grab the kids and head for The Peregrine Fund’s World Center for Birds of Prey for a free day of fun and educational programs focused on conserving birds of prey.

Family Field Trip Saturday will be held February 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center. Families will receive a passport to guide them through various activities at the interpretive center. Those who complete all the activities will receive a free calendar featuring birds of prey around the world.

Visitors also can enjoy a new photo exhibit, “Arctic Wings: Miracle of Migration,” featuring 30 large-format color images of birds found in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, an ecosystem that is crucial to the survival of more than 190 bird species. In addition, a newly renovated viewing chamber for Gyrfalcons, with cliffs and a beautiful mural of the Arctic environment, is now on display.

Driving directions: From I-84, take the Cole Road exit and continue south on Cole Road for 6 miles to Flying Hawk Lane.

The Velma Morrison Interpretive Center features Interactive displays and films about eagles, hawks, falcons and other birds of prey. The new outdoor Condor Cliffs display gives visitors a close-up look at a pair of endangered California Condors.

The Archives of Falconry contains art, sculpture, artifacts and rare books related to the ancient sport of falconry. The Arab Heritage Wing allows visitors to experience an authentic hunting tent and enjoy interactive displays on falconry in the Middle East.
