Our efforts would not be possible without the support of the many individuals and organizations that work side by side with us in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean.

Casa Pueblo

Casa Pueblo is a community self-management project that is committed to appreciating and protecting natural, cultural and human resources. It was born in 1980 when the group rebelled against mining exploitation in the central mountains, which would have caused an ecological and social catastrophe across the 36,000 acres of land in the municipalities of Adjuntas, Utuado, Lares, and Jayuya. The group acquired an old house in 1985, transformed it into the headquarters of the organization, and became the independent cultural-community center that has become known to stand for ecological issues and be the voice of the people. Casa Pueblo’s Finca Madre Isla became the safe space needed to build the project’s first hack site, which helped launch recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria.

The mission of the United States Forest Service (USFS) is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. Located in Puerto Rico's Northeast Region, El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rainforest in the national forest system. The local USFS Ecological Services staff help us conduct raptor surveys, search for nests, and provide training and cooperative learning opportunities to safely climb trees.
