Lucy Harrington | Colorado Springs, Colorado
Hi!
I’m Lucy. I grew up in Nederland, a small town in the Colorado Rockies. Despite somewhat humble beginnings, I was fortunate to have been raised by a mother that believed strongly in travel and exposing me to the natural world. Because of this, I spent my childhood exploring the mountains learning about the plants, wildlife, and avian species that make up our communal ecosystem and coming to appreciate the important balance between the human and natural environment. I also passed many summers in Brooklyn, NY swimming and people watching with my grandmother, aunts, and cousins at Brighton Beach, where my family has ties going back 4+ generations. This gave me a deep affinity for the NYC region.
I have devoted my life to conservation while simultaneously addressing human and societal needs, working first for several federal agencies and now in the private sector implementing stream, wetland, and wildlife habitat restoration throughout the U.S. This includes protecting habitats for bird species such as Swanson’s hawks, golden eagles, and whooping cranes.
I have always enjoyed physical challenges. I have had the opportunity to see Andean condors soaring on top of Mt. Aconcagua, glimpsing cock of the rock while hiking through the Ecuadorian cloud forests with friends, kites while exploring the alps with my sister, and red tail hawks while biking in Colorado Springs where I live today. I ran my first 10K with my dad when I was 13 and haven’t stopped running since.
I am excited to run in support of the Peregrine Fund to encourage raptor conservation around the globe. Land is the one thing we cannot make more of- we need to make the most of what we’ve got. Please help by supporting the Peregrine Fund during the United Nations’ Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. And thank you!
