The Peregrine Fund is proud to announce that Curtis Evans, Volunteer Coordinator, has been awarded the Southwest Idaho Directors of Volunteer Services (SWIDOVS) D.O.V.E. Outstanding New Volunteer Administrator Award for 2015. This award recognizes a volunteer administrator with two or fewer years in the volunteer management profession who sets a positive example for their colleagues through use of best practices and modeling appropriate interpersonal interactions. Bill Heinrich, the Interpretive Center Director at The Peregrine Fund’s World Center for Birds of Prey says, “In the past year, Curtis has shown enthusiasm and passion for creating a volunteer program that is a true asset to our visitors and staff.”
Evans joined the staff at The Peregrine Fund in November 2014 and has since worked to develop a vibrant and knowledgeable team of approximately 100 volunteers that engage visitors to the World Center for Birds of Prey in the exciting world of raptors and conservation. His background with the Boy Scouts of America made him instrumental in developing The Peregrine Fund’s scouting curriculum, which led to one of the most successful Scout Saturday programs in the organization’s history. This summer, Evans developed a volunteer program for teenagers called Raptor High that involved 23 students from around the Treasure Valley. These high school students spent more than 700 hours learning about raptors, discovering a passion for conservation and teaching biology and ecology to visitors.
Volunteers are essential to the daily functioning of The Peregrine Fund’s World Center for Birds of Prey, which welcomes over 40,000 visitors each year. Curtis Evans’ demonstrated leadership has shown him to be a top notch volunteer administrator, and The Peregrine Fund’s staff and volunteers congratulate him on receiving this award in recognition for his outstanding service to the organization.
