The Peregrine Fund
Another Extraordinary Achievement in Madagascar
This fall brought even more incredible news from Madagascar. Tsimembo, one of the protected areas that Lily and The Peregrine Fund team manage, earned recognition as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—joining only five other sites in the country with this prestigious designation.
Earlier this year, Lily proposed that Tsimembo deserved global recognition for its conservation work– the Madagascar Government agreed, officially nominating the site to UNESCO. When approval came through in October 2025, it confirmed what we already knew: Tsimembo represents something special—a place where local solutions address challenges that reach far beyond its borders.
Now, as the nation's sixth Biosphere Reserve, Tsimembo stands among the world's most important sites for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation.
Congratulations once again to Lily for his dogged determination and dedicated leadership.
