With the goal to increase the number of raptor champions in Africa by 30% over the next 10 years, the African Leadership Grant will support educational and mentoring opportunities for emerging African scientists.

The initiative, launched in 2023, awarded its first grant to Joan Banda, a raptor research student at A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute in Nigeria, who will study threats to African owls.
