NYC Marathon 26 Burr Tweedy
I’m Burr Tweedy, a sustainability professional living in NYC and a lifelong athlete. My career is centered on renewable energy finance, but my roots are in environmental science. Whether I’m playing in my winter hockey leagues at Chelsea Piers, practicing acoustic guitar, or training for my next marathon, I’m someone who values the discipline it takes to master a craft—and the perspective gained from being outdoors. I’ve lived in New York for years, but my connection to the natural world is what keeps me grounded in the middle of the city.
I’m running the 2026 TCS NYC Marathon to turn my 26.2 miles into a platform for conservation. I’ve learned that both distance running and environmental protection require the same thing: long-term discipline and a commitment to the "long game." By racing this year, I’m raising funds to ensure our urban ecosystems and wildlife habitats are protected for the next generation of New Yorkers.
My interest in conservation is personal. Having studied environmental science in college and spent my summers working at the Bronx Zoo, I’ve seen firsthand the intricate work required to protect vulnerable species. Those summers focused on wildlife conservation taught me that every species plays a vital role in its ecosystem’s stability. Raptors, and the Peregrine Falcon in particular, have always fascinated me as a symbol of that stability. They are masters of their environment—efficient, precise, and incredibly resilient. To me, conservation is about ensuring these birds and their habitats aren't just surviving, but thriving. It’s a reminder that even in the most developed landscapes, we have a responsibility to maintain a world where wildlife still has a place.
