World Center for Birds of Prey celebrates Endangered Species Day on Friday, May 18

BOISE, Idaho – The World Center for Birds of Prey will celebrate Endangered Species Day on Friday, May 18, to highlight the importance of conserving birds of prey and other wildlife in Idaho and around the world.

Rare and endangered species are on display at the interpretive center, including California Condors and Aplomado Falcons. Visitors also will be able to enjoy up-close views of a Peregrine Falcon, a species that was removed from the U.S. Endangered Species List in 1999 after one of the most successful recovery efforts in history.

Live bird presentations throughout the day will focus on The Peregrine Fund’s work to recover threatened and endangered species over 42 years. For the kids, there will be a scavenger hunt to learn about endangered raptors and win a Birds of Prey calendar.

Endangered Species Day was established by the U.S. Senate in 2006 to encourage the public to be aware of threats to species, learn of the successes of the Endangered Species Act, and promote species recovery around the world.
