In the rangelands of southern Kenya, the Martial Eagle and African Hawk-Eagle are quietly disappearing. As pastoralist communities such as the Maasai settle into permanent homes and raise poultry and small livestock, conflict with these eagles is growing. When an eagle takes a chicken or young goat, the loss hits a subsistence farmer hard. Some retaliate by shooting, trapping, or poisoning the birds, or by secretly destroying nests, often deep in the bush where it can't be detected or stopped.

The Peregrine Fund is launching an innovative initiative to resolve this conflict. Using solar-powered GPS transmitters and motion-triggered nest cameras, our team will pinpoint exactly when and where eagles take livestock. With that evidence, we can work alongside local communities on practical solutions: eagle-proof enclosures in conflict hotspots, guidance on protecting young livestock during peak hunting hours, and nest adoption programs that reward farmers for keeping nesting trees undisturbed. Our experienced field teams are ready, but we need your help to scale this work. Your gift will help us fund program necessities like GPS tags, nest cameras, and local community scouts that will help secure a future for these kings of the African sky.
