World Center for Birds of Prey Celebrates International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 8

3 May 2010
BOISE, Idaho – The Peregrine Falcon is one of 20 birds being featured this year at International Migratory Bird Day celebrations from Canada to South America. The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey is marking the annual event on Saturday, May 8, with family-friendly activities and live bird demonstrations.

This year's theme, "The Power of Partnerships," highlights the cooperative efforts of many organizations and agencies involved in bird conservation. Organizers featured 20 species -- including the Peregrine Falcon -- to illustrate the benefits of successful partnerships. Other raptors on the list are the Swainson's Hawk and Burrowing Owl. More information is available at:

The event at the World Center for Birds of Prey will have activities, films, tours and live bird demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors will receive a "passport" that encourages them to imagine being a migrating Peregrine Falcon as they visit interpretive displays. Other activities include identifying wild birds, making a Harpy Eagle crest, dressing like a bird of prey and touring the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center and Archives of Falconry.

A movie about The Peregrine Fund's work with native people to restore Harpy Eagles in Panama will be shown, as well as a slide show about the organization's conservation projects worldwide.
