William A. Burnham Memorial Fund moves up deadline for grant applications to January 31

BOISE, Idaho – Applications for research projects funded by the William A. Burnham Memorial Fund will be accepted until January 31, 2014. The deadline has been moved up a month to allow recipients more certainty about funding for projects that take place in the spring and summer.

The fund supports ornithological research anywhere in the world, but preference is given to applicants working with birds of prey, on bird species in the Arctic, or on falconry-related topics. Awards are for one year and range up to $5,000.

Awards will be announced by March 1. Applications and information are available online: http://peregrinefund.org/burnham-fund

The Burnham Fund was established to honor the memory of The Peregrine Fund’s late president, who joined the organization in 1974 and served as its president from 1986 until his death in 2006.

Burnham spearheaded the establishment of the World Center for Birds of Prey when the organization’s eastern and western operations merged and moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1984. During his tenure as president and CEO, The Peregrine Fund expanded its mission and took on raptor conservation projects around the world. An avid falconer, Burnham conducted field work in many locations, including Greenland to monitor populations of Peregrine Falcons, Gyrfalcons, and other arctic wildlife.
