Volunteering for The Peregrine Fund’s International Programs

Young Harpy Eagles are fitted with radio-transmitters prior to their release. Volunteer Elsie Ashworth follows the signal from one of these transmitters to locate a recently released Harpy Eagle. Volunteering with The Peregrine Fund is a great way for you to make a difference in conservation and gain valuable experience.

".....I learned how to approach conservation problems in a practical way, using my hands and my mind in a way that I could never learn from a textbook. It was a lifetime experience working alongside local people and helping to protect some of the rarest raptors on earth!!"
--Martin Gilbert, a Madagascar Project volunteer.

"This experience has been a great opportunity to better explore the biology and conservation of birds of prey. Nothing better to do it with than Harpy Eagles, a bird I thought I would never see!"
-- Laura Riba Hernandez from Costa Rica.

WWe accept volunteers in international programs who demonstrate an ability, commitment, and enthusiasm to serve. Volunteers are considered and applications reviewed with the same rigor as employment candidates. Typically, volunteers are selected to bring some useful talent, skill, or knowledge to a project and gain valuable international experience in return. They usually pay their own costs including travel to and from the project, food, medical, and other costs, though specific conditions can vary between project sites. Volunteers must be able to communicate in the language of the host country and usually are required to work a minimum of three months. In many projects, living conditions are primitive, difficult, uncomfortable, remote, and isolated. An ability to deal with these challenges by turning adversity into adventure while remaining positive and productive is essential!

Anthony Curro helps a child view one of the few remaining Asian vultures in Nepal.Volunteers can apply to participate in projects in the following countries:

Panamabr> Belize
Kenya
Madagascar
Nepal
Pakistan
Mongolia
and possibly others

Volunteers with skills in the biological sciences, wildlife conservation, or education are encouraged to apply.

To find out if there are current volunteer opportunities, send a letter of enquiry and your resume by e-mail to The Peregrine Fund at tpf@peregrinefund.org.

We encourage participation of volunteers through the Volunteers for Prosperity (VfP) initiative. The VfP initiative is part of the USA Freedom Corps volunteer service initiative that encourages skilled and trained individuals to volunteer with organizations promoting health and prosperity throughout the world.

Volunteers become eligible to earn the President's Volunteer Service Award, which was launched in 2003 to honor any American who completes 100 or more hours of volunteer service at home or abroad within a 12-month period.
