POSITION SUMMARY

The heart of The Peregrine Fund’s education program is our Interpretive Center where visitors have the opportunity to meet live raptors from around the world. The Interpretive Center provides a unique experience that engages the public about the importance of conservation. The sales manager will facilitate the branding, promotion, marketing, and sale of products through the World Center for Birds of Prey’s Interpretive Center and gift shop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Sales Manager will manage and market all products sold through The Peregrine Fund’s Boise-based gift shop. This includes, but is not limited to, admissions, special projects, memberships, and special events. The Sales Manager will also work with Peregrine Fund project managers from around the globe to facilitate connections with artisans near our project areas. The Sales Manager works with Interpretive Center staff and volunteers to ensure a welcoming, educational, and safe atmosphere for all visitors to the World Center for Birds of Prey.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

General – Sales (75%)

  • Promote The Peregrine Fund and its projects through marketing and branding of merchandise
  • Manage the design, maintenance, and aesthetics of The Peregrine Fund’s gift shop
  • Conduct and analyze annual inventory
  • Maintain sales volume, product mix, and selling price by keeping current with supply, demand, and changing trends
  • Project expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products
  • Manage yearly sales budget
  • Create year-end summaries and reports
  • Utilize, maintain, and update a Point-of-Sale register system
  • Create and monitor procedures to protect the security of cash, checks, and credit cards, and manage PCI compliance for the gift shop
  • Serve as gift shop attendant when shifts are not filled by volunteers or other staff
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing professional networks
  • Take lead in organizing nightly deposits and manage cash flow

Operational (Promotions, Guest Services, Education) (25%)

  • Engage the visiting public about conservation issues
  • Perform a variety of operational tasks at the center (open/close, docent, tour guide)
  • Present educational programming as needed, including live bird demonstrations
  • Participate in the planning and coordinating of events throughout the year
  • Provide input and ideas for online promotions, including social media
  • With Interpretive Center staff, develop, promote, schedule, and conduct volunteer training
  • Collaborate with Peregrine Fund staff to support a variety of programs as needed
  • Cultivate partnerships with outside entities to develop programs of mutual interest

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of retail management experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of point of sale systems
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and inspire a dedicated community of volunteers
  • Must be a flexible self-starter, and a team player
  • Understand principles of customer service and crowd control
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Application suites
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience purchasing and selling direct fair trade products
  • Experience with content management systems, website design, and e-commerce applications
  • Passion for education and the conservation of biodiversity worldwide

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to dust, allergens, and hazardous materials is common. The sales manager is required to move heavy objects as needed. She/he will need to be comfortable in a dynamic work environment with frequent interruptions. Anticipated weekly schedule is Sunday – Thursday.
