POSITION SUMMARY

The Proposal Development Specialist is responsible for researching sources and for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Proposal Development specialist will conduct the full range of activities required to research, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources

RESPONSIBILITES AND SCOPE

  • Perform research to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants
  • Work with Development and Finance teams to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation and corporate donors
  • Provide stewardship to corporate and foundation donors by providing appropriate updates and other reports of interest to the donors beyond that required by the donor
  • Understand institutional history and programs
  • Maintain records in Raiser’s Edge and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting
  • Play lead role in coordinating fundraising database management
  • Assist with other fundraising efforts as requested

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Strong editing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research
  • Strong contributor in team environments
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with grant writing
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of birds and particularly birds of prey

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily indoors in an office setting. The employee may be required to travel to events by car or commercial aircraft.
